Tests & Assessments

It is statutory to report assessment data externally (to the Local Authority and Department for Education) at the end of Reception, Year 2 and Year 6.

EYFS:

The children in Reception sit a baseline test during the autumn term, so that their progress can be measured from a starting point. The level of development in all 17 areas outlined in ‘Development Matters’ (2012) is reported to the LA during the summer term.

Children in Years 2 and 6 sit SATs (Standard Assessment Tests).

Key Stage 1:
SATs take place in Year 2 (at the end of KS1) throughout May. Each child is also teacher assessed in reading, writing (including spelling and handwriting), speaking and listening, maths and science. The teacher assessments are reported externally and are used to judge attainment (the standard that your child is working at in comparison to children of the same age nationally) and progress.

Key Stage 2:
Year 6 (at the end of KS2) SATs take place in May and are far more formal than in Key Stage 1. The tests which are taken in Year 6 cover the three core subjects, English, Maths and Science.

The children sit a reading paper, SPaG tests and 3 maths papers. The papers are sent away to be marked with results being available before your child leaves primary school in July. Their writing is teacher assessed.

Teacher assessments in all three core subjects are also reported.

Children in all year groups complete formal assessments each half term – these are set and marked internally. The results are shared with the children and parents (at Parents’ Evenings).
